There is only one real reason — Platforms and systems shouldn’t be the gatekeeper to knowledge — too many paths lead to “pay-to-play”.
I’ve decided to enable free access to all the articles and content I’ve posted on Medium over the past 10 years — because it is the right thing to do. By and large we find that too many times, more than enough paths lead to “pay-to-play”. Too many times I’ve tried to access information, or learn more about a particular subject because I was trying to help others learn — and I ran into a paywall. “You’ve exceeded your number of free articles this month” is not what I want as a reader… Any readers… let alone anything I’ve written.
So whether it is on this platform, or my Substack newsletter, or Instagram, or Twitter, or whatever comes along — I’m posting articles, book reviews and interviews in the interest of amplifying and elevating the work of people creating meaningful work. I’ve waffled over the past ten years of being a paid writer, unpaid writer, finding ways to ‘monetize’ my work — and I’ve come to the conclusion that Knowledge should be available without a gatekeeper.
